The vCenter Server Appliance is a preconfigured Linux virtual machine, which is optimized for running VMware vCenter Server® and the associated services on Linux. VCSA comes with an embedded DB which, along with the Linux OS remove all Microsoft licensing costs. In version 6.5 VMware have integrated the Update Manager component which removes the requirement of a separate VMware Update Manager Windows Server. The Platform Services Controller (PSC), which runs embedded, contains all the necessary services for running vCenter Server such as vCenter Single Sign-On, License service, and VMware Certificate Authority.
